We have this song that we play on the radio every now and again, which is titled, "I want to go to Heaven." Well for our thought today, I want to say, I'm going to Heaven, how about you?
Have you ever asked directions? It is a male thing not to stop and ask for directions when needing help in unfamiliar territory. Then most of the time, when someone gives you directions, they are as ambiguous as a termite in a yo-yo. When the Lord Jesus gave direction to the destination of Heaven, He was very plain and to the point, even to the fact that He is the only Way. So plain and simply that even a child can understand what He meant when giving these directions. I also want to say, that I am thankful for the radio preachers who explained the simply plan of Salvation, for me when I was lost and needed to hear that Jesus is the Way. Now I can say with full assurance "I am Going to Heaven, how about you?"
The Psalmist cried, Psalm 39:4 Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am. This would be a great point for all who preach the truth about the way that Jesus has appointed for mankind. If we could just get people to see that there is a real Heaven to gain and a real Hell to shun. At the end of this life's journey, life goes on and there is a destination.
1. The Destination "The Father"
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. The destination of Jesus was to go to the Father. As a believer we have the same destination: the believer's destination is "the Father," in the Beautiful City Of God.
When Abram in Genesis Chapter 12 stepped out on faith, he became a pilgrim and a stranger. As a pilgrim he had a destination, as a stranger he was away from the home he had sought. Cain, after his murderous act, was expelled to the land of Nod, there he was doomed to wonder aimlessly about without any destination.
Deut. 32:29 O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end! To depart without a plan to is to aimlessly wander from pillar to post, bringing one to a unwanted destination. One of the greatest tragedies of our times is that the general populace do not have any idea about their destination at the end of this life's journey. When we move into the future, we will not leave any forwarding address. We would do well to heed the words of Moses to a people wandering aimlessly in the wilderness, be wise and understand where you are going.
Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. For a journey to have a right destination, it must have the right beginning. There is destruction for those who aimlessly wander in their own self satisfying ways. In Luke 16, Jesus gave us a real account of one who lived in this fashion, only to find out that there was destruction when his time of departure arrived. This is not all of it, this rich man will be called from hell to suffer the second death.
Rev. 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. The sad thing about it, when a person ends up in hell, the torment is never over. There is still the judgment of the second death. We have said and I believe it has been said many times. Born once, die twice, Born twice die once, meaning of course to be born again.
2. The Direction "By Me"
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Jesus also is the Door of the Way that leads to Salvation, Jesus is the only door that opens to peace and security. He is the only way that gives the Believer the assurance of going to the Father's House.
A. The Door
John 10:7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. According to Jesus, no one comes to the Father, which is in Heaven except they come through Him. Some people who have the Father's house in their sights never get there because they have missed the strait gate. To come through Jesus, one must accept Jesus as Savior which allows them to come through the door. Not just know about the door, but actually coming through the door, into ever lasting life.
There is a difference between pointing the way to a particular place and taking someone by the hand and leading them to the Promise Land. The person who guides someone to their destination literally becomes the way himself. Jesus Christ not only points out and tells a person how to walk through life and how to reach God, He personally shows and becomes the way.
B. The Defiled
There are many who are trying to find the way to a god and to a better life. However, they are listening to the wrong instructions, and have no idea which way is truth. Many have decided to simply go through life, hoping they will stumble upon the Godly life. Dear listener, again, it is so simply that even a Child can understand these directions.
Isaiah 35:8 And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein. All that have never been make clean by the Blood of Christ have missed the Holy way. The wandering searchers are wrong in their philosophy of what makes a person Clean. The thinking of the ones who do not accept the message of God, is that they are made clean by:
When you and I, or anyone stands before Christ at the Judgment Seat of Christ, the only righteous thing we can cling to is the Blood Stain Banner of the finished works of the Cross. The only thing we should glory in, is none other than the Crucified, Risen Savior.
3. The Demands "I Am The Way"
The idea that there is not any difference between religion and Christianity is absurd. Christianity produces a real living Savior, who makes a difference in our life. the way we live and proclaim His message of Grace and Truth.
When we preach that Jesus is the Way, we are not just pointing to the way. We are introducing the believer to the Person who guides them to the Promise Land. He will take them by the heart, and also by the hand, leading them in the right way and to the desired place.
Socrates once walked the streets of Athens and accused his countrymen of living the unexamined life", [Illustrations]. He might well have walked the streets of America. Even better, what if Paul who was so stern in his present the only way of salvation, what would he say to our nation. Jesus is the only way to Heaven, this is demanded by Jesus Himself. This is why Paul was driven to take the gospel to his world. It is why the church still confronts an often indifferent world and boldly preaches that Jesus is the Way.
A. He Is The Narrow Way
John 6:68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. The rebuke of the political correct, wretched liberal thinkers of our day, comes from the Lord Jesus Christ, the author of Christianity. It is not our intolerance, it is His. It is not that we are narrow minded, as we have so often been accused. It is His doctrine and truth, and we are obligated to relate the truth. We have no right to make the way narrower than He does, we have no right to make it broader than he does.
In this pluralistic world, we are often corrected for thinking of something that is exclusive. For our society the ultimate virtue is tolerance, forfeit the truth for peace. We are judged by a society that preaches to us, judge not! They are quick to brand those of us who preach that there is only "one way" as bigoted and intolerant.
Isn't it funny and strange that this attitude is confined to Christianity. We want bankers who are narrow-minded to the extent that two plus two equals four, not three. We insist on a pharmacist following exactly the doctor's prescription.
Yet we have these words of Jesus, "No one comes to the Father except by me. This ADAMIC nature likes to treat every religion as having a good trait, every philosophy as worthwhile, regardless of how wrong and harmful they are. We remain silent, waste time while we watch some trying to get to Heaven by their own way.
B. He Is The New Way
Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. It is the exclusiveness of Christianity that makes evangelism an imperative of the church. Before the great commission, all had to come to Jerusalem. Now in the Church age, the Church is now to go out carrying this message to every nation and to every creature.
Dear listener, if you get where you are going, where will you be? As for me, and might I add my family, I'm going to Heaven, how about you?
