A Few Thoughts About The Christian’s Work
(Jude 20-23)
Introduction: Our work matters! And here we find in these three small verses in the little book of Jude some real help in describing it and encouraging it. Let’s look there and examine our work for God!
I. It is a Personal Work (But ye,) v.20
A. No one can do it for you
B. No one can do it like you
C. No one can do it but you
II. It is a Precious Work (But ye, beloved,) v.20 (the art work of your children from when they were younger)
A. Treasured by the Father
B. Tremendous by Heavens fashion
C. Tested one day by the fire
III. It is a Needful Work (building up yourselves on your most holy faith) v.20
A. You need it (fellowship, worship, leadership, we need the Lord and each other)
B. The Church needs it
C. The World needs it
IV. It is a Holy Work (praying in the Holy Ghost,) v.20
Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might…..
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
A. Unseen power at work
B. Unknown forces in play
C. Unchangeable purpose being fulfilled
V. It is a Happy Work (Keep yourselves in the love of God,) v.21
A. We are winners, that’s a fact because of Calvary
B. We are witnesses, that’s a fact because of Pentecost
C. We are workers, that’s a fact because of the Call
1 Timothy 1:12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;
VI. It is a Watchful Work (looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.)v.21
A. Watching for the Lord to come again (working out of that hope, working out of that sense of His shadow)
B. Watching for the one’s He points out who need our help
C. Watching for His approval that the work is of the right sort
VII. It is a Lasting Work (looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.)v.21
A. A work that won’t come undone
B. A work that will never stop working
C. A work that will show promise and reality here and in heaven
VIII. It is a Compassionate Work (And of some have compassion, making a difference:) v.22
A. Love them as Christ would
B. Learn them as a friend would
C. Lead them as an example would
IX. It is a Urgent Work (And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire) v.23
A. The need is great
B. The time is short
C. The cause is worthy
X. It is a Separated Work (hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.)v.23
A. We need heavens heart (Pure hearts and a right motive)
B. We need heavens hands
1. We need scared hands, His hands reaching through us, and hands that give and sacrifice
2. We need callused hands that are not afraid to work
3. We need clean hands that reach and don’t further spot them up but that can lift them up
