What a Wonderful Cross

To understand the wonder of the cross we must look at the Man on the Cross, the Message of the Cross, and the Mercy from the Cross.

I. The Man on the Cross
A. Unlike any other--Son of God

B. Unique as no other--God the Son

II. Message of the Cross
A. Message of Love--Agape
1. Stable (unchanging)--John 13: 1
2. Self-sacrificing--John 15: 3
3. Sacrificial--Gal 2: 20; Eph 5: 2
B. Message of Life--"At the Cross" Salvation provided full and free
C. Message of Liberty--"freed
1. From the Power of Sin--
2. From the Penalty of Sin--Rom 8: 1; John 3: 18; John 5: 24
3. From the Presence of Sin (Future)--He's coming to take us home (Jn 14: 1-3)
III. Mercy from the Cross
A. Request for mercy--"Lord remember me..." Lu 23: 42
B. Response of mercy--"Today thou shalt be with Me..." Lu 23: 43

Conclusion:
On the cross, Jesus died so that every man might be saved--He is not willing that any should perish!
On the cross, Jesus provided salvation for all who will trust and believe in Him.
On the cross, Jesus proved the love of God to all men.
