How To Stay By The Stuff

I Samuel 25:2-13

I am sorry to report that many do not stay by the stuff.

Moses sent out 12 spies. Name me a few of the ten who quit and said they could not go into the land; however, you can name the two who stayed with it.

Memorials are built in honor of those who stayed by the stuff.

What about these in our text who stayed by the stuff? I'm sure that these men must have faced ridicule from their peers. I don't know how it was determined who would go out to battle and who would stay by the stuff.

However, whoever they were they stayed by the stuff.

Several things that will enable you to stay by the stuff:

I. Stay with the Saviour

Keep your eyes on him.

Keep looking to Him

Hebrews 12

The comedian Jack Benny met a girl that he wanted to date but was too shy to ask her. So he sent her a rose every day with the words, “To Mary, with love.”

One day the girl approached Jack is he had been sending her these roses everyday. Then she asked him is there something you want to ask me, and he said, “Yes.” Then she said, “Do you want to ask me out for a date?” He answered he did. They dated and every day thereafter he sent her a rose with a card that said, “To Mary with love.”

Finally, they got married and then he began to send a rose everyday with the words, “I love you more this day than last year on this day, love Jack.”

Jack loved his wife and wanted her to know his love would last a lifetime and beyond.

One day Jack died after he and Mary had been married for 48 years. When Mary got home after the funeral there was a knock on her door. Mary opened the door, the florist had a rose with the words again, “To Mary, love Jack.”

She called to remind the florist of her husband's death, and she learned that Jack had included a provision for the flowers in his will. One red rose was to be delivered to her every day for the rest of her life.

There is one who loves us more than Jack Benny loved his wife.

Jeremaih 31:3 “... I have loved thee with an everlasting love.”

We have the Rose of Sharon, and He loves us.

The place of praise, prayer, and preaching often is the place of illuminating perspective.

Charles Heston who was the leading actor in the movie Ben Hur was approached by the director, Andrew Marton, and told that he was going to race the chariot in the movie. Mr. Heston said that he did not know how to drive a chariot, and he was informed that he had better learn.

The race took five weeks to film. Charlton Heston spent four weeks learning how to drive a chariot.

He was taught by the stunt crew, who offered to teach the entire cast, but Heston and one other were the only ones who took them up on the offer.

At the beginning of the chariot race, Heston shook the reins but nothing happened as the horses remained motionless. Finally someone way up on top of the sets yelled, “giddy-up!” and that galvanized the horses into action. Heston was flung backwards, off the chariot.

After practicing for three weeks, he finally told the director, “I think I can stay in the chariot, but I am not sure I can win the race.”

The director told me, “You stay in the chariot, and I will see to it that you win the race.”
