AND THE WORD WAS GOD John 1:1-14
I. THE SCRIPTURE'S EXPLANATION
A. The origin of Christ v. la; In the beginning was the Word,
Psalms 90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou
hadst formed
the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting,
thou art God.
B. The position of Christ, v. 1b, and the Word was with God
Hebrews 10:12But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice
for sins for ever,
sat down on the right hand of God;
C. The description of Christ, v. 1c, and the Word was God.
John 10:30I and my Father are one.
D. The creation by Christ, v. 3;All things were made by him; and
without him was
not any thing made that was made.
II. THE SERVANT'S PROCLAMATION
A. Notice his ordination,v. 6a; There was a man sent from God
B. Notice his identification, v. 6b;whose name was John.
C. Notice his occupation, v. 7a; The same came for a witness,
to bear witness of
the Light
D. Notice his intention, v. 7bthat all men through him might believe.,
John 1:8He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of
that Light.
III. THE SAVIOUR'S REVELATION
A. By his incarnation, v. 14;And the Word was made flesh, and
dwelt among us,
(and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of
the Father,) full
of grace and truth.
Romans 8:3For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through
the flesh,
God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for
sin, condemned
sin in the flesh
B. By his habitation, v. 10a; He was in the world, and the world
was made by him
Matthew 1:23Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring
forth a son,
and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted
is, God with us.
C. By his illumination, v. 9;Thatwas the true Light, which lighteth
every man
that cometh into the world.
John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into
the world, and
men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were
evil.
IV. THE SINNER'S SITUATION
A. No comprehension, v. 5;And the light shineth in darkness; and
the darkness
comprehended it not.
B. No conviction, v. 10b; and the world knew him not.
Romans 3:18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.
C. No conversion, v. 11;He came unto his own, and his own received
him not.
John 5:40And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
V. THE SAINT'S RECEPTION
A. The election, v. 13; Which were born, not of blood, nor of
the will of the
flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
B. The salvation, v. 12; But as many as received him, to them
gave he power
to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Rom. 10: 13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord
shall be saved.
C. The transformation, v. 12; But as many as received him, to
them gave he
power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on
his name:
Romans 8:16-17 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit,
that we are
the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God,
and joint-heirs
with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be
also glorified
together.
