THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE SPIRITUALITIES
( 1 Corinthians 12:1-31)
Text 1 Corinthians 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
Introduction:-In this chapter the apostle considers the case of spiritual gifts, which were very plentifully poured on the Corinthian church. He points out the fact that they are from God and that they were all intended for the advancement of Christianity and the edification of the church.
I. The Importance of the Spirit Vs 1-3
A. He is rejected by the Gentiles. Vs, 1-2
B. He leads no one to say that Christ is accursed. Vs 3a
C. He leads men to recognize the Lordship of Christ. Vs 3b
II. The Investments of the Spirit Vs 4-11
1. There are diversities of gifts but the Spirit is the same. Vs 4
2. The manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit. Vs 5-7
3. He divides to every man severally as he will. Vs. 8-11
III. The Instrumentality of the Spirit Vs 12—31
1. We are baptized by the spirit into one body. Vs 12-13
2. The Spirit brings unity to the body. Vs 14-21
3. The Spirit makes up that which may be lacking in the body. Vs 22-31
Conclusion :The place and program of the Holy Spirit are seen in this chapter. The word spirit is mentioned some eleven times in this chapter.
