THE SCRIPTURE DEALS WITH THE WORDS "ONE THING" IN SEVERAL PLACES.
I. One thing to desire Psalms
27:4
Ps 27:4 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek
after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days
of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in
his temple.
A. The Service he desired “that will I seek after”
B. The Sanctuary he desired “that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life”
C. The Scene he desired “to behold the beauty of the LORD,”
D. The Supplication he desired “and to inquire in his temple”.
II. ONE THING WE CAN LACK:
MARK 10:17-22
Mark 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him,
One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast,
and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven:
and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
A. THE LACK HE FELT VS.21
1. HE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY OF A GODLY HOME.
2. HE HAD THE SINCERITY OF AN HONEST MIND.
3. HE HAD THE TESTIMONY OF A GOOD RECORD.
* AND YET THERE WAS STILL THE LACK HE FELT !!
B. THE LORD HE FACED
1. THE IDENTITY OF CHRIST REALIZED
2. THE AUTHORITY OF CHRIST MUST BE RECOGNIZED
C. THE LOSS HE FEARED -- HIS WEALTH
D. THE LOVE HE FORSOOK
III. ONE THING WE CAN KNOW: JOHN 9:25
THE MIRACLE:
John 9:25 He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no,
I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I
see
A.PURPOSES THE ACTIVITY OF CHRIST: VS.11a
B.PRESUMES THE AUTHORITY OF CHRIST: VS.11b
C.PORTRAYS THE ADEQUACY OF CHRIST: VS.11c
IV. ONE THING THAT IS NEEDFUL:
LUKE 10:38-42
Luke 10:42 But one thing is needful: and Mary
hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from
her.
A. THE PRESENCE IN WHICH SHE WAS DELIGHTED v.38
B. THE PRESSURES BY WHICH SHE WAS DISTRACTED v.40
1. THE TASKS THAT WERE DEMANDING
2. THE THOUGHTS THAT WERE DISTURBING
C. THE PRIORITY TO WHICH SHE WAS DIRECTED vss.41-42
1. THE BUSY-NESS HER LORD NOTICED
2. THE BLESSEDNESS HER HEART NEEDED
V. ONE THING WE CAN DO:
PHIL.3:13&14
Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended:
but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind,
and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
A. THERE MUST BE ELIMINATION IN OUR LIVES v.13

B. THERE MUST BE DETERMINATION IN OUR LIVES v.13b

1. KNOW THE PERSON OF CHRIST VS.10
2. KNOW THE POWER OF CHRIST VS.10
3. KNOW THE PASSION OF CHRIST VS 10
C. THERE MUST BE ACCELERATION IN OUR LIVES- v.14
