Just Any Day Now

Revelation 19:11-21

Just as sure as Jesus came the first time, he is coming again. Most people have little trouble accepting his first coming; there is even a special day that we are supposed to celebrate it. Yet many are hesitate to believe his 2nd coming. The RAPTURE is not the second coming; it is Jesus coming for the church. The REVELATION described in our text is the second coming. The RAPTURE is Jesus coming for his Saints. The REVELATION is Jesus coming with his Saints. Lets look at the second coming as described in our text and it could be any day.

We see here a :

A. A BIBLE TRUTH: The first promise in the Bible is about him coming again, the last promise tells us he's coming again. Between these two promises are many more that speak of His return

B. A BASIC TRUTH: This is a basic doctrine, you can't go very far as a Christian without it. It is our foundation it is what the future of the Christian rests upon.

C. A BLESSED TRUTH: I Thessalonians 4:18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

D. A BELITTLED TRUTH: 2 Peter 3:3-4 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

E. A BELIEVED TRUTH: Saints in both the old and new testaments believed this day would come, and that truth is a certainty today.

I. THE KING'S COMING: v.11

A. WHERE HE'S COMING FROM: v.11a For 2,000 years now he has been in heaven seated at the right hand of God, waiting for the moment when the Father says, “Go get them. "

B. WHERE HE'S COMING TO: Acts 1:11

Zechariah 14:4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.

C. WHAT HE'S COMING ON: Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

When a King entered enemy territory riding a donkey he was coming in peace. When he came on a horse he came for war. I have often been called a white horse rider. I have not rode one of this caliber yet but I will one day and you will to if you’re saved.

Revelation 19:14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.

Clarence Larkin said this in his commentary on Revelation: Many stumble at the "White HORSE" and his RIDER; and ask, in amazement, if we believe it? Yes! Why not? We believe it, just as we believe the prophecy of Zec 9:9, where the Prophet, speaking of the First Coming of Christ, said—"Behold, thy King cometh unto thee . . . lowly and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass," which we know was literally fulfilled as recorded in Mt 21:4-11. Jesus, as far as we know, rode but once in the days of His Humiliation, and then upon an humble animal, an ass, but when He comes again in His Glory, as "King of Kings," He shall sit astride a magnificent WHITE CHARGER.

D. WHAT HE'S COMING FOR: To judge Revelation 19:11c and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. This world for a long time has lived in defiance of God. They have shook their fist in the face of God. They rejected, tortured, and crucified Him the first time He came. It will be different the next time. The first time He came to a cross the next time He will come in great power as Lord of Lords and King of Kings, and sit on the throne.

II. THE KING'S CHARACTER: v.11c; 13; 16

The King's character is revealed to us in his names. A MAN'S NAME ALWAYS REVEALS HIS CHARACTER!!!

In our text there are five; four are revealed one is concealed.

A. FAITHFUL & TRUE - THE RELIABLE ONE: v.11c This is why Solomon could say in

1 Kings 8:56 “There hath not failed one word of all his good promise.”

B. WORD OF GOD - THE REDEEMING ONE: v.13

C. KING OF KINGS - THE RULING ONE: v.16b

D. LORD OF LORDS - THE RIGHTEOUS ONE: v.16c

III. THE KING'S COUNTENANCE: vss.12-13a

No where in scripture do we find that it describes the appearance of Jesus in his first coming. WE don’t know how He looked.

A. WE FIND JESUS IN SWADDLING CLOTHES: Luke 2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

B. WE FIND JESUS STRIPPED OF CLOTHES: Matthew 27:28 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.

C. WE FIND JESUS IN SOVEREIGNS CLOTHES: Revelation 19:13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

When He comes in all His beauty and splendor the Bible says in Revelation 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

IV. THE KING'S CROWNS: v.12b

The first time He came He was crowned with a crown of thorns Mark 15:17 And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head, When he comes again he will not be wearing thorns, but the crown jewels.

Revelation 19:12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.

V. THE KING'S CONQUEST: vss.19-21

A. THE KING'S ARMY: v.19c

Those in the king’s army will not lift a finger in this battle. Re 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations:

B. THE KING'S ENEMY: Revelation 19:19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.

C. THE KING'S VICTORY: Revelation 19:20-21 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

This battle the Lord Himself will fight. What a day that will be. Surly this time is near if you are unsaved you will face His wrath one day. Want you come now while His mercy is extended and be saved. He could come any time for the saints, and if you are lost at His coming you will have no other opportunity to be saved.
