Perilous Times
2 Timothy 3:1
Paul tells us that in the last days perilous times shall come. He did not say they might come but he said This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 Timothy 3:1. With out question they will come. Webster in his 1828 dictionary defined the word perilous as; Dangerous; hazardous; full of risk; as a perilous undertaking; a perilous situation. Surely we live in dangerous times.
1Timothy 4:1 speaks of those who will depart, and we are seeing this happen.
Many have departed from:
A. THE FAITH:
1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter
times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing
spirits, and doctrines of devils;
B. THE FELLOWSHIP:
2 Timothy 4:10 For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present
world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia,
Titus unto Dalmatia.
C. THE FUNDAMENTALS:
Many have gone away from old fashion worship, preaching, praying.
I. WE HAVE SERMON'S WITHOUT THE SPIRIT:
Preaching without power
1 Corinthians 2:4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
A. PREACHING SHOULD BE PRECISE:
Precise - accurate; uncompromising. 2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word;
be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with
all longsuffering and doctrine.
B. PREACHING SHOULD BE POINTED:
Pointed - aimed; personal. Gun barrel straight.
C. PREACHING SHOULD BE PLAN:
Plan - don't beat around the bush. Plain talk is easy understood
II. WE HAVE SALVATION WITHOUT THE SAVIOR:
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is
none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must
be saved.
* Salvation is not in:
FAMILY TRADITION; FLESHLY AMBITION: Do the best you can
A. REMORSE IS NOT REDEMPTION:
I know a lot of people who are sorry about some things they have
done but that does not save.
B. RELIGION IS NOT RIGHTEOUSNESS:
Hell will be filled with religious people.
C. RIGHT LIVING IS NOT REPENTANCE:
Every one should strive to live right, but it does not save.
D. Real salvation brings about a change. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new. Can the sodomite be saved? YES but they will leave their old life style. You can not be born again and not have a change. The old things will be turned from.
III. WE HAVE SIN WITHOUT SORROW:
2 Corinthians 7:10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation
not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
A. SIN IS ACCEPTED: People have no shame, sin is openly committed and most seem to be proud of the wicked way they live
B. SIN IS APPROVED:
I was recently at one of our high schools when school was dismissed
and what I saw from teenage kids was shameful. If I had done that
when I was in high school I would have been sent home three days
first occurrence and permanently dismissed if it happened again.
But it is ok today.
C. SIN IS NOT ACKNOWLEDGED:
Sin is still sin in the eyes of God._ Mal 3:6 For I am the LORD,
I change not. Men no longer see sin as sin. People now live together
out side of marriage some still attend church and fail to acknowledge
their sinful arrangement. It is a sign of the times Matthew 16:2-3
He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It
will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning,
It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring.
O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye
not discern the signs of the times?
Surely perilous times are here if you are unsaved please know time is running out. Come while you have the opportunity and be saved. If you know youre saved but know you are not where you need to be please come now. 2 Corinthians 6:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
