AT THE CROSS
TEXT- MARK 15:25-47
Many different people were gathered at the cross when Christ was crucified. Some with a desire to see Him die, some out of devotion to the Lord.
1. THE CENTURION -IN CHARGE OF THE EXECUTION Vs.39
A. Simple Faith made his decision on what he saw and heard
B. Simple Example-Man puts so many conditions on salvation
C. God will Save the Repentant, Believing Sinner-Under any circumstances and conditions if there is genuine repentance and faith
II. THE CONVICTED SINNER Luke 23:40-42
A. Ridicules-He started out ridiculing Christ
B. Repentant-It's how you finish that makes a difference
C. Remembered-Throughout eternity
III. THE CALLOUSED SINNER Luke 23:39
A. Guilty
B. Mocker-How sad to spend our last hours on earth making fun of God
C. Forsaken - Forgotten throughout eternity
IV. THE COUNSELOR-V.43
A. A man of Courage-just to step forth boldly as he did - others hid
B. A man of Charge-He had responsibility
C. A man of Conviction - Honorable, Wailing for God's Kingdom
V. THE CROWD OF WOMEN-VS. 40 - 42
A. Women of Faith - Luke 23:49 And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things. “women that followed Him- This is a simple but excellent description of Christianity.
B. Women of Faithfulness-They were the last to leave the cross and the first at the tomb. Their devotion surpassed that of the disciples
C. Women of Forgetfulness-They forgot self their attention was focused on Jesus
VI. THE COWARD - PILATE V. 44
A. He Knew the Truth But Did Not Follow It
B. He Marveled On Occasions But Did Not Respond
C. He Compromised
VII. THE CHRIST-VS. 37-38
A. The Satisfier - Only Jesus could do that He satisfies God
B. The Sanctifier - He sets believers apart. He separates us for God's use
C. The Shepherd - He takes care of us
