God That Comforteth
2 Corinthians 2:13; 7:6
Introduction: Who can comfort like God?
I. The ability of our personal witness without Him is empty
and void.
A. The Christian is the hammer that continues to "pound-out"
the Word to those in need. 2 Corinthians 1:4-5
B. Our Source must be the Lord. Heb 4:15-16
II. God can come to any saint or sinner to lift up his countenance.
A. He is the God of all comfort.
1. One word of God is like a piece of gold when giving comfort
from God. Romans 15:4
B. He is the Jehovah-rophi. [The God that heals] Ex 15:26; 23:25;
Deuteronomy 7:12, 15
C. He is the Comforter. 2 Corinthians 1:4; John 14:16-18; Luke
8:43-44
III. The promise of His return brings comfort 1 Thess 4:18
A. "Wherefore comfort one another" (hoste parakaleite
allelous). "Therefore comfort or console you all one another";
it was to our Lord's church, in a restricted sense He promised,
"I go to prepare a place for you", and "I will
come again to receive you to myself", not to the sum total
of the world, and to the Galilean brethren He pledged that He
would return as He went away.
B. "With these words" (en tois logois toutois) "with
these (particular) words", of the resurrection and Second
coming of Christ; The second coming of Jesus Christ is the remedy
and solution to all the ills and problems of the redeemed and
of the Church who look for His coming 2 Timothy 4:5-8
Conclusion: It is not by the power of man but through the power of God that we find comfort.
