As Ye Have Received Christ
Colossians 2:4-6
Introduction: A. Tell how people are when they first get saved.
B. This is how they should walk in Christ all their days.
I. AS YOU REPENTED - SO WALK YE IN REPENTANCE.
A. Mind changed about God. Respect - awe - admiration - reverence
B. Mind changed about Holy Spirit. Blanket - Shield - Security – Comfort. What keeps us and keeps us going.
C. Mind changed about His Church. Couldn't wait to get to Church.
Influence of world changes our mind and feelings about the Lord's
Church.
D. Mind changed about Bible, sin, and ourselves. Sinners saved by grace.
E. Change of mind, heart, attitudes.
II. AS YOU RECEIVED HIM BY FAITH - SO WALK YE IN FAITH - RELYING ON JESUS CHRIST.
A. Faith only in Him for salvation.
B. But trust in ourselves for daily living.
Romans 5:1, "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."
II Corinthians 5:7, "For we walk by faith, not by sight."
C. Trusted Him for eternity but can't trust Him to lead us for one short day of our lives.
Romans 8:15, "For ye have not received the spirit of bondage
again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby
we cry, Abba, Father."
III. AS YE RECEIVED HIM HUMBLY - SO WALK YE HUMBLY.
A. Humility is realizing I am what I am by the grace of God.
B. Take God out of the picture, you will die.
C. Luke 18:13, "And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner."
D. Recognize God as the giver of all things.
IV. AS YE RECEIVED HIM JOYFULLY - SO WALK YE IN JOY.
A. Satan can steal your joy if you allow him to.
B. BUT He cannot keep it.
Conclusion: As ye have received the Lord Jesus Christ, so walk ye in Him.
